The Korean team, which placed third overall at the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games, met again to reflect on their glory and celebrate their achievement.
On the 30th, the Korea Sports Council held "Thank you, TEAM KOREA", an event to encourage the Korean athletes for the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games, at the Lotte Hotel in Jamsil, Songpa-gu, Seoul.
Korea dispatched 1,140 athletes in 39 sports, the largest ever, to the Hangzhou Asian Games, which opened on the 23rd of last month and ended on the 8th of this month, and won 190 medals, including 42 gold medals, 59 silver medals, and 89 bronze medals. It ranked 3rd in the overall rankings, following China and Japan.
On this day, 350 people attended, including Director Choi Yoon, Hangzhou Asian Games team executives and medalists, President Lee Ki-heung, officials from the Korea Sports Council and member sports organizations, and Shin Jin-young, an administrator from the Senior Office for Civil Society in the President"s Office.
At the event, encouragement money of 30 million won each was given to triple gold medal winner Kim Woo-min (Gangwon Provincial Office) in swimming and Lim Si-hyeon (Korea National Sports University), triple gold medalist in archery, who were honored as the "Korean Team"s Male and Female Most Valuable Players (MVP)" through a press vote for the first time in the Summer Asian Games.
Kim Woo-min said, "I feel honored to attend such a great event.
I think I should focus on training with a happy heart and repay the competition with better results."
Im Si-hyeon, who was unable to attend due to her schedule, was awarded the award on her behalf by her father.
In addition, the ‘Fighting Spirit Award’ was badminton Se-young Ahn (Samsung Life Insurance), the ‘Achievement Award’ was table tennis Shin Yu-bin (Korean Air), the Encouragement Award was skateboarding Kang-ho Moon (Gangwon-do Roller Sports Federation) and swimming Lee Eun-ji (Bangsan High School), and the ‘Special Award’ swimming Hwang Seon-woo (Gangwon-do). Encouragement money was also distributed to medalists.
The gold medalist was represented by Kim Kwan-woo of e-sports Street Fighter V, the silver medalist was Lee Hye-jin (Seoul City Hall) and the women"s cycling team sprint team, and the bronze medalist was Yang Yeon-soo, who collaborated on the women"s squash team medal.
Appreciation plaques were awarded to donation organizations, individuals, and sponsors who contributed to the Asian Games athletes, and the Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism received a special achievement award.
In an encouraging speech read by the host, President Yoon Seok-yeol said, "The passionate passion and fighting spirit shown by the athletes in this Asian Games was a great inspiration to the people.
All of you who played a great game are heroes and pride of the Republic of Korea," and added, "The government will continue to support your efforts in the future." “We will improve the training environment and expand support so that this can bloom,” he said.
